Whatever your chosen decoration style, plantation shutters are sure to enhance your interior. Stunning to look at, superbly practical and durable too. For those of you who don't know the concept of plantation shutters or interior wooden shutters as they are sometimes known, you will be surprised at how they transform your room, by controlling light and at the same time giving the decorative look of a piece of expensive furniture. We only use quality products and that is born out in the brands we use, such as Customwest Shutters and Luxaflex Shutters.Plantation shutters come in various types of materials, ranging from MDF, different types of woods - including Parasol, Basswood, Cedar and Oak. We have also recently added to our range the Luxaflex Vinyl Shutter Collection, which comes with an unprecedented 25 year guarantee, they are totally waterproof so great for bathrooms and rather than the standard delivery time for most shutter orders of 6 to 8 weeks, we can complete and install within a 3 week period. Whatever the material, be it MDF , Wood or Vinyl, the Slats and profiles are carefully prepared and undergo an exacting process, to ensure a fine, lustrous and durable finish.

The collection has a range of whites and cream colour choices, with a mixture of dark and light stained wood as well. If there is not a colour or shade to suit your requirements, we provide a custom painted service, which gives you the choice of thousands of colours, using either Dulux or Farrow & Ball. All we need from you, is the colour number and name of the paint and we will produce shutters for your doors, windows, arches and room dividers and any other areas that you require light control and privacy. Some of the finishes available, range from satin, gloss, distressed, High Gloss and Piano finish.

The shutters come in five louvre widths, 32mm, 48mm, 64mm, 89mm and 115mm, they can be fixed into a recess or outside recess. If fixed into a recess, when the doors are folded back, the stack will protrude slightly into the room, whereas when fixed outside a recess, the door panels when folded back, will fold against the wall. However, in our system we have a Z profile Frame, which allows us to fit the shutter to the very front edge of the recess. By using this profile frame, we can give enough clearance to allow the shutter doors to stack flat back onto the wall. The other plus point using Z profile, is that it has a lipped edge and this moulding, frames the recess edges to give a clean finish and hides any recess abnormalities, which I am afraid most windows have.

To those of you who have never come across interior Shutters before, this is a brief description of the product. When a site visit is made to your property, we discuss the number of panels and configurations available, to tie in with the size of your window or doors. On an average window, you will have around 2 shutter panels each side so when the shutter is closed, 4 shutter panels will be seen. All the panels are hinged so when the shutter is pulled back, they concertina back on themselves. When the shutters are across the window, the control of light can be adjusted by tilt rods, which are inset into the front of the shutter, these tilt rods move the louvres and work the same way a venetian blind.

New Vinyl Plantation Shutter range

Vinyl shutters are now available in this country and with some benefits which are difficult to ignore. The price per metre is not a lot lower than the our entry level wood shutter products so you may ask why choose vinyl. Delivery times on all Plantation Shutters supplied in the UK can range from 6 to 9 weeks this is because they are all made in China and logistically it takes that long. Luxaflex Vinyl Shutters are made in the UK so in theory you can be looking at a two to three week delivery time. One of the main reasons why this product will have the edge on wood is the guarantee. We give a 3 to 5 year warranty on all our wooden shutters depending on the brand but in the case of Vinyl which is waterproof and more durable than wood we offer a 25 year guarantee on the material with a 5 year guarantee on hardware i.e. hinges etc. The material used to make these shutters is Polyresin 3 rigid vinyl. It has a hollow core which means there is an air gap within the material giving superb insulation and energy efficiency in summer and winter and is suitable for both residential or commercial use. Because the material is waterproof and resists both mould and bacteria it is ideal for bathrooms, wet rooms, Hospitals, Nursing homes and Hotels etc and comes with fire retardent rating of BS5867 / 2. This product comes in 3 colours and does not have the option for custom painting. The vane widths are available in 64mm, 89mm and 114mm. I dont think that Vinyl Plantation Shutters will ever replace the wood version as many people will still request the real thing, but there is no doubt, with the guarantee and other benefits it has its place in the current market.
